Growing up in New York and Pennsylvania, Rick attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating with a degree in Oceanography in 1978. Figuring he have to positioned his know-how of the oceans to some sensible use, Rick have become a nuclear-trained officer and served aboard the U.S.Patrick Henry, a nuclear submarine, till 1983. At that factor, figuring out that a persisted career in submarines might let him see the mild of day for one of every ten years or so, Rick elected to go off to regulation faculty.
